How We’re Supporting Our Employees During Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992, with the aim of raising awareness and providing support for individuals who are struggling with stress, and the impacts it can have on our mental health.

This year’s theme for Stress Awareness Month is Little By Little, A Little Becomes A Lot.

Even the smallest steps taken each day towards self-care and stress reduction can yield significant improvements in mental health over time. This month encourages individuals to focus on making manageable adjustments to our daily routine.

While the impact of small actions on their own may seem little, the cumulative effects of these habits can end up being profound.

Stress Statistics

Stress and poor mental health are one of the biggest challenges communities and businesses are facing. Take a look at some key statistics below, highlighting some of the impacts stress can cause.

The Workplace Health Report revealed 33% of employees report moderate-to-high levels of stress, and 28% report that high levels of stress impact productivity.

Reports by Statista found the most common type of stress, is work-related stress, with a huge 79% of UK adults stating they frequently felt it.

An even more distressing statistic by Mental Health Foundation revealed 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed they have been overwhelmed or unable to cope.

Stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 55% of all working days lost due to ill health in 2021/22.

A 2023 report by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found there are 875,000 people suffering from workplace stress, anxiety and depression.

Providing Support in So Many Ways

Our team are so important to us. We strive to ensure that each and every employee at SupaLite feels supported and has someone to confide in during challenging and overwhelming times.

We have three trained Mental Health First Aiders available in the workplace; Laura, Sean, and Jennifer. This is to ensure there is always a trained MHFA available if someone needs to talk. We also have a fourth team member who begins their Mental Health First Aider training in May.

We also use the Wisdom App, (available on mobile, tablet, and desktop), which provides an enhanced set of wellbeing tools and engaging features, helping users track their wellness, improve their mental health, and stay resilient during tough times.

Spreading Positivity with Wellness Tips

Sometimes, we need a little inspiration to help us make our first step towards change. That’s why we have created Stress Awareness Weekly Planners for our employees for the whole of April.

Each week, we are sharing daily wellness tips and activities that help us reduce and cope with stress. We will also be offering healthy treats that have a positive impact on our bodies, such as dark chocolate, oranges, chamomile tea, and oatmeal.

Taking Small Steps Towards a Big Change

Only 13% of employees feel comfortable discussing their mental health openly at work, at SupaLite, we want to change that.

We work extremely hard to provide a positive environment our employees feel comfortable in, tackling the stigma of discussing mental health in the workplace.

This month, we want to emphasise the importance small, consistent habits and activities can have a huge benefit to our wellbeing over time.

Small steps and changes really can have a big impact.
