EXTENSIONS

Elevate your home with a SupaLite Extension

Things to consider when choosing a roof extension

There are various different types of roof extension available. To make sure you choose the right one, you should think about how you want it to look. That includes both inside and out.

If you want your extension to match your existing home, we’d recommend a pitched roof extension like the SupaLite Roof. If you would like an extension that stands out, we’d suggest a flat roof extension like the ultra-modern ILite Flat Roof. Take a closer look at both below.

Flat roof extension

The ILite Flat Roof Orangery is a stylish, modern flat roof extension. It looks great on any contemporary home, but makes an appealing contrast to older homes too. The glass lantern floods the extension with natural light, creating a bright, airy feel inside. The lantern is available in bespoke sizes and configurations, and can be customised to fit your extension.

Inside, the glass lantern makes a wonderful centrepiece. Arrange furniture around it for flowing conversation on the sofa or inspiration at the desk. The flat ceiling is finished with seamless plastering and spotlights, so you can enjoy your extension late into the night. It is important to add a waterproof covering on a flat roof extension. The ILite Flat Roof Orangery has a waterproof covering, finished with GRP or EDPM rubber, determined by the installer or yourselves as the homeowner.

Your questions - answered

The time it takes to install a SupaLite roof can vary according to size, complexity of design and optional features. However, generally it only takes a few days or less. The ILite Flat Roof can be built in a matter of hours, ready for waterproofing and installation of the glass lantern. Contact a SupaLite registered installer directly for a more precise time frame.

The ILite is a very modern, stylish roof extension. It looks great on any contemporary home, but also makes an appealing contrast to an old building. The glass lantern maximises natural light and creates an open feel to the room. It is quick and easy to install, and can be fitted within a matter of hours ready for waterproofing.

A pitched roof extension, like the SupaLite Roof, blends into your existing home. It can be finished with ExtraLight tile or slate, available in a range of colours. Homeowners can also add SkyVista glass panels to increase natural light.

That’s really up to you! A pitched roof extension has a more traditional look and will blend into your existing home. You can also add in SkyVista glass panels for more natural light. The ILite, on the other hand, looks much more modern. The central glass lantern floods the rooms with natural light and creates a bright, airy feel. However, a flat roof must be waterproofed because water cannot flow off.

If your extension falls within your ‘permitted rights’ then you don’t have to apply for planning permission. Single storey extensions generally do not need planning permission, as long as they don’t extend any more than 4 metres from a detached property or 3 metres from any other property. They also cannot exceed 4 metres in height. Find out more about planning permission.
