Lane & Peach Transforms Bungalow Conservatory with SupaLite’s ILite Flat Roof System

Project Overview

The homeowners of a charming chalet-style bungalow faced ongoing challenges with their glass roof conservatory situated at the rear. Despite their efforts of adding reflective film to reduce solar gain, the space remained difficult to regulate – it was too hot in summer, too cold in winter.

To complicate matters further, a persistent leak from the existing box gutter added to their frustrations, making the conservatory increasingly unusable.

After a thorough site assessment, Lane & Peach suggested a design that would ensure a highly insulated solution and that eliminates the requirement of a box gutter. Their proposed solution required a full planning application due to changes in structure and aesthetics.

Staying within the original conservatory footprint, Lane & Peach began by removing the old glass roof and outdated uPVC frames. These were replaced with modern uPVC frames featuring sunshade neutral tinted glazing for solar control, and integral blinds along the neighbouring elevation to enhance privacy without compromising on style.

At the heart of the transformation was the installation of SupaLite’s ILite Flat Roof Orangery System – a lightweight, thermally efficient structure ideal for this type of retrofit. The roof was designed to be fully supported by the reinforced uPVC frames below, ensuring structural stability and thermal performance.

To bring natural light back into the room, a central opening was created to house a SupaLite S1 Roof Lantern, glazed with neutral-tinted glass to perfectly match the surrounding windows and doors. This feature allowed daylight to flood into both the conservatory and the adjacent lounge, creating a bright and welcoming space.

The homeowners now enjoy a compliant, contemporary living space that can be used comfortably all year round.
