We recently collaborated with Quay Construction on a conservatory roof upgrade – transforming a leaking glass conservatory into a bright, modern space filled with natural light.

Project Overview

The homeowners had endured years of problems with their existing glass conservatory. Persistent leaks, poor insulation and extreme temperature fluctuations meant the room was uncomfortable and largely unusable throughout the year.

Adding to the complexity, the conservatory roof needed to integrate around an existing balcony structure, creating a unique design challenge that required a carefully tailored approach.

After exploring several options, the homeowners decided a complete conservatory roof replacement and rebuild would provide the best long-term solution – improving the space.

The project centred around the installation of a SupaLite ILite Flat Roof with S1 Roof Lanterns, complemented by lower UPVC solar neutral glazing and full-length picture windows. Carefully designed to maximise natural light while improving thermal efficiency, the combination created a bright, open living space with stunning panoramic views and year-round comfort.

The windows were cleverly engineered using concealed steel reinforcement within the frames. Existing brick pillars were reinforced to support the new structure, while the interior was fully plastered and rendered to create a seamless modern finish. A durable GRP flat roof and integrated LED lighting completed the transformation, giving the space a clean, contemporary feel.

What was once a cold, leaking conservatory has been transformed into a bright, modern living space that the homeowners can enjoy all year round.

Working with Quay Construction to Provide a Solution

After receiving detailed specifications and drawings from Mark at Quay Construction & Glazing, our team worked hard to ensure the roof design was accurate and aligned with the customer’s vision.

The ILite system was precision-built in-house and assembled in pod form, while the S1 Roof Lanterns were carefully manufactured at our Croft Street site to exact dimensions. Both systems – along with the lantern glass – were delivered directly to site within just 10 working days, allowing Quay Construction to complete the installation even quicker.

The final result is truly stunning, delivering exactly what the customer envisioned.

We’ve had a leaky conservatory for the last few years and eventually decided to get it sorted. It was unusual as the conservatory roof fitted around a balcony. We had a few people round and asked them for ideas/options. Mark spent time discussing what he thought might be possible and then went away to draw up some ideas and costs.

Once we’d settled on a design, things moved fairly quickly with scaffolding, delivery of materials, glazing and different teams getting involved as required to take down the old and put up the new.
